Willingway Foundation
The Willingway Foundation was founded in 1977 as a non-profit charitable extension of Willingway Hospital in Statesboro, Georgia, specializing in the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction. The hospital and its unique philosophy emerged out of the life experiences of its co-founders, Dr. John and Mrs. Dot Mooney. Although Willingway Hospital had treated countless alcoholics and addicts since its opening in 1971, it became evident that in-house treatment alone would be inadequate to meet the challenges of society's ever-growing addiction problems. With this in mind, Dr. John and Mrs. Dot, along with a group of dedicated individuals, went about creating an organization that would lend Willingway's expertise to the seemingly insurmountable task of closing the gap in the knowledge and understanding of addictive illness in the medical and educational communities.
