Approach to Treatment
A Unique, Caring Family:
The Willingway Difference in Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Treatment
When your loved one comes to Willingway Hospital, you become involved in the drug addiction or alcoholism treatment from the very beginning. You have the opportunity to become an important part of the recovery process, and your role is critical to its success. Support, love, and understanding make the difference!
For most families and friends, substance abuse and addiction are totally new, “unknown” experiences. If you are anxious or frightened, do not worry. You are not alone.
Willingway's drug addiction and alcoholism treatment center was all about family from the very beginning. The hospital's roots are in the humble surroundings of the Mooney family home in the 1960s. At that time, the patients shared the house with Dr. John, Dot and their four children. Everyone who stayed there was made to feel a part of the family.
Even though the surroundings have changed and we're now on a beautiful 11-acre wooded campus, our patients and their loved ones are still considered part of the family. We make a commitment to providing you with the best care possible. We will use all of our knowledge and skill to deliver quality alcoholism or drug addiction treatment for you and your loved ones in a dignified, concerned, and loving atmosphere. If at any time you feel we are not living up to this high commitment for your treatment, please share your concerns with a counselor, nurse, physician or administrator.
We have a high ratio of staff members to patients with a significant percentage of staff currently in recovery. This approach means we not only have the right level of resources to provide the best chances of success in recovery, but also that our staff members genuinely understand every patient's unique issues.
Willingway’s commitment to help each family member discover and accept a new life free of all mood-changing substances is evidenced in its program of recovery, in which alcoholism or drug addiction is treated as a primary illness that affects the entire family system. This philosophy is based on four concepts:
* The full causes of alcoholism and drug addiction are unknown
* Alcoholism and drug addiction are, at least in part, chemical illnesses
* There is a relationship between alcoholism and addiction to other drugs
* Alcoholism and drug addiction are a disease of the total person
(body, emotions, mind and soul)
